The Magic Five

Your dog is a social being and so are you. The basic framework you provide your dog is a measure of how calm and relaxed your dog is and how he relates to the outside world.

Nobody is born with social skills, we acquire them by learning. A well-balanced dog is not made in heaven – it develops these skills with your help and under your guidance.

The Magic Five are:

  • environmental habituation (e.g. sounds, sudden noises, different terrains, crowds, playing children or toddlers, joggers, bicyclists, fast moving objects such as balls or cars, etc.)

  • social compatibility  (with humans - familiar or not - and with other dogs, male or female, big or small)
  • relaxed bahaviour on the leash
  • being able to stay alone (at home, in the car, etc.)
  • and last, but by no means least, to come reliably when called

On this solid basis your dog will learn commands such as “sit”, “lie down”, “by my side”, etc. quickly and reliably.
